MyBurgerLab Nasi Lemak Burger

Okay, this is me riding on the craze that is the Nasi Lemak burger fisco because I managed to get a bite of the famed Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang (NLAR) burger from burger experts, MyBurgerLab just yesterday.

I arrived at 530pm, an ungodly hour for dinner and already both floors of MBL Seapark was full and void of seats. Oh my, I thought. It's been a while since this happened. Queue to order wasn't long, just long enough for my group to decide what they wanted and not long enough that we were standing outside its doors. 6pm was prime time with people flocking in for a taste of the burger. Understandably, it was two things that Malaysians love: Nasi Lemak + Burger = love.

And when it came - along with my usual order of a Beautiful Mess and my sisters' order of Juicy Lucy and the In-and-Out Tribute. We each took a bite of the highly sought after NLAR and chewed, savouring the flavours of which we were no strangers to.

Ikan bilis - check
Cucumbers - check.
Fried chicken - check. Perhaps the best part of the burger. So juicy and crunchy.
Egg - check - as a glorious fried egg with a watery yolk.
Rendang - check.
Sambal - check.
Peanuts - represented in the form of peanut butter. Hm, couldn't really taste it.

The verdict?
It was...okay. Not whelmed at all.

MBL has achieved a good balance of all the flavours of a Nasi Lemak except the nasi itself. To me, the nasi in nasi lemak is what makes or breaks this dish and even though the NLAR has all of the key elements, the lack of fluffy pandan-flavoured rice left me with a hankering for actual Nasi Lemak from the roadside store. Thumbs up for effort. But when it comes down to value for money and calories, give me a good old fashion Nasi Lemak bungkus anytime soon.

MyBurgerLab's Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang is available until 31 August. Feeling patriotic? Then go have a try. At the meantime, I await for the return of the Ultraman while munching on my Beautiful Mess.
