ANA KL - Tokyo NEW Business Class Menu by Zipangu, Shangri-La KL

I often get questions asking me which airline do I use to travel to Japan and I would always say check the price on ANA first. If you can afford it, go for it. The comfort and service is worth that extra dough. ANA is Japan's largest 5-star airline for six consecutive years and from the moment I checked-in my luggage right up to when I collect them at my destination, it was easy to see why this airline was so deserving of this rating. ANA is perhaps the ideal representation of Japan hospitality and the best way to introduce you to its country. Heck, even its domestic flights are top-notch with self-check-in luggage services that continue to impress me till this day. 

I am not sponsored to say this by the way. I am simply sharing genuine thoughts on the airline based on my experiences. But if given a choice, I would always fly ANA. I remember, once while flipping through their extensive inflight menu, seeing umeshu being served in Business Class and I thought to myself....

One day...I shall get that elusive complimentary upgrade to Business Class. 

Speaking of Business class, travellers onboard ANA flights from Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo can soon enjoy a brand new Business Class menu that has been specially crafted by Chef Nao Takeshita of Zipangu restaurant, Shangri-La KL. While steeped in Japanese culinary traditions, the renowned chef has emerged with his unique take on the much-revered cuisine. With over 25 years of culinary experience including 20 years with Nadaman restaurants in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka, Chef Nao has developed skills and acquired a wide range of international flavours which has inspired him to create delicious and memorable dishes. His skills and experience has led him to curate the perfect menu in just three months.


The new Business Class menu is available on the Kuala Lumpur to Haneda Airport and Narita International Airport from June to November 2019. Guests can look forward to two sets of changing menus as following: 

Appetizer/Zensai (Morning and Evening) 
Scallop Mouse with Consomme Jelly,
Simmered Black Beans, Japanese Omelet, Prawn and Orange, 
Simmered Mackerel in soy-based ginger sauce, Vinegrets Paprika
Simmered Green Soybeans in Soy-based sauce
Wolfberry and Boiled Carrot

Appetizer/Kobachi 
Marinated tomato with crab meat, chopped onion, pink pepper (Morning only)
Smoked salmon with halal wasabi dressing (Evening only)
Pickled cabbage, yellow and red petit tomato(Evening only)

Main/Shusai (Morning and evening) 
Grilled Cod fish and Saikyo Miso flavour
Asparagus, Boiled carrot in maple shape, Zucchini

Rice 
Mixed rice with chicken and vegetables, miso soup, Japanese pickles (Morning only)
Steamed rice, miso soup, Japanese pickles (Evening only) 

Dessert
Assorted fruits (Morning only)

Appetizer/Zensai (Morning and Evening) 
Potato Salad, Simmered black beans, 
Japanese omelet, prawn and orange,
Marinated deep-fried young corn,
Asparagus rolled with smoked salmon,
Boiled radish in chrysanthemum shape,

Deep fried seabass in citrus venegar sauce, (Morning only)
Cucumber, red and yellow paprika, onion(  Morning only)
Beef "shabu-shabu" salad with salad dressing, (Evening only)
Marinade tomato, lotus root, boiled cabbage (Evening only)

Simmered mackerel in miso sauce Zipangu style

To celebrate this announcement, ANA has been having an exclusive 4 days Business Class and Inflight menu tasting experience for fans of the brand. From 7 -10 March, registered guests could experience the Business Class seats for themselves and taste the menu prepared by Chef Nao on the first floor of Shangri-La KL. There was also a VR flight simulation to try.
