[Cafe Review] Ghostbird Coffee + Ramen Project

A solo jaunt into Seputeh found me at Ghostbird Coffee, a hidden cafe that shares its space with a Yoshoku-inspired pop-up kitchen, Ramen Project. For a late Saturday morning, the cafe was quiet - a rarity in today's explosion of cafes in Malaysia and I absolutely milked in the peace and quiet.

The place was inviting with all sorts of homey furniture and decorations that didn't match. In short, it had the vibes and feels of someone's home. Ghostbird Coffee Company was its own roastery and upon wandering over into the shoplet side, I could sniff the scent of freshly roasted coffee beans. Delightful.

I ordered a flat white (RM12). The barista asked for my preference in flavours which was more on the chocolatety, nutty side and suggested the Gemini blend. It was perfectly brewed with the notes coming through clearly against the milk. Needless to say, I was pleased with my coffee.

Is hamburger steak considered a balanced meal? Because the dish served by Ramen Project certainly looked and tasted like one. It was pleasing visually and even more so on my tastebuds. The hamburger of pork and beef (RM35) was flavourful and juicy with the right amount of tangy sauce and mashed potato to go with.

Now for the pièce de résistance, the caramel pudding (RM10). I love caramel pudding, always making it a point to hunt down the premium version from the conbinis in Japan. The staff was upfront with me on the texture of the pudding, admitting it was more on the custardy side today. I just shrugged and ordered one anyway.

You know a caramel pudding is good when the sauce had a tinge of smoky bitterness and the one I had here had just that. The pudding while custard-like didn't disappoint in its mild sweet flavour.

Ramen Project also had a Washoku set menu but that requires advance booking and payment upfront to minimize wastage. This menu consist a main meal, appetiser, dessert and a drink for RM60. Quite value for money I would say as some of the dishes like the Sapporo Soup Curry dish is impossible to find in Klang Valley.

Noting to myself to make a return visit soon.
