That was pretty much the vibe at the OXYENERGY x Media Prima Merdeka Run 2026, where more than 1,500 runners and participants came together for a morning of running, wellness and plenty of patriotic spirit.
Held under the theme “Empowering Healthier Malaysians This Merdeka”, the Merdeka Run 2026 was designed to make getting active feel accessible, whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual jogger or someone who mostly considers walking to the mamak exercise.
A Merdeka Run for Everyone
There were two categories to choose from: the 5.5KM Challenge Run and the 3.5KM Family & Casual Run. The shorter distance made it a particularly approachable option for families and casual participants, while those looking for a little more of a challenge could take on the 5.5KM route.
And with families, working professionals, fitness enthusiasts and participants of all ages turning up, it felt less like a competitive race and more like a big community gathering with running shoes.
Which, honestly, is quite a nice way to celebrate Malaysia.
More Than Just Running
The morning wasn’t just about clocking kilometres. Participants could also join the OXYENERGY Wellness Session, which covered practical tips on nutrition, self-care and everyday wellbeing. There was also an opportunity to discover OXYENERGY’s range of wellness products, including White Tomato, L-Carnitine, DailyBiome and Easy Fiber.
I liked that the event brought the idea of wellness beyond simply exercising. After all, being healthy is more than just surviving a 5.5KM run and then rewarding yourself with an enormous plate of nasi lemak.
Celebrating Malaysians, One Runner at a Time
One of the fun touches was seeing participants recognised across different age groups and abilities. Awards included Oldest Participant, Youngest Participant, OKU Participant and Best Merdeka Fashion, adding a nice dose of personality to the event.
OXYENERGY Is Heading to Watsons
There was also some good news for those interested in checking out OXYENERGY’s wellness range.
The brand announced that its products will be available at selected Watsons outlets nationwide from November 2026, making them a little easier to get your hands on.
OXYENERGY also states that its featured products are registered with Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) and are Halal-certified.

And because no Malaysian event is quite complete without some prizes, lucky draws and family-friendly entertainment kept things going after the run.
The event also brought together government leaders, Media Prima executives, media personalities, athletes and influencers, including Communications Minister YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Youth and Sports Minister YB Dr Taufiq Johari.
