Nagasaki, Kyushu [Day 4 Part 2] - Meganebashi Bridge

One of the places I've heard so much about when researching Nagasaki was Meganebashi aka the Spectacle Bridge. It runs over Nakashima River in downtown Nagasaki, near China town and against a backdrop of the hills and slopes, makes for a very pretty sight.

The bridge got its name from its double arches when reflected in the calm waters of the river will look like a pair of glasses from the neighbouring bridges.

My Thoughts on AirAsia Unlimited Pass

Updated 12 May 2020: Pass Validity has been extended until 30 June 2021!

I bought the AirAsia Unlimited Pass on its launch day and have used it already so I think that alone puts me in a greater authority to comment on it than half the "analytical" netizens out there. Initially I had no intention of doing this post but the more misinformation I saw on the Internet, the more triggered I became.

For an understanding of what the AirAsia Unlimited Pass is, go to the announcement post here.

AirAsia X is flying from KL to Okinawa (via Taipei)!

Starting 22 January 2020, AirAsia X will be flying into Naha Okinawa, the southern most prefecture of Japan. The four times weekly service via Taipei will be AirAsia’s sixth international destination in Japan, after Tokyo (Haneda and Narita), Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka and Nagoya (via Bangkok).

I have stayed at Okinawa for three weeks. If I had to describe the island, I would say, if Malaysia and Japan had a baby, it would look like Okinawa. With a tropical climate closer to ours and a food cuisine impacted by Americans and Taiwan, the culture there reminded me ever much of Malaysia. Minus our teh-tarik sea waters. Theirs is pristine blue and absolutely beautiful.

You can read my postings on Okinawa here.

AirAsia X Malaysia CEO Benyamin Ismail says, “Our rapid expansion into Japan continues following the launch of services to Fukuoka and Tokyo Narita earlier this year. Okinawa is an island paradise that offers a different Japanese experience for leisure travellers, including white sandy beaches with clear blue waters, some of the world’s most famous diving spots and unique Ryukyuan cuisine."

Guests from Kuala Lumpur to Okinawa Naha are not required to obtain a visa during their one hour fifteen minutes stopover in Taipei and may return to their seats after clearing a quick security check of their carry-on bags and inflight belongings.

Okinawa is one of Japan’s 47 prefectures comprising 160 islands in the East China Sea. With its unique cultural heritage and local cuisine, Okinawa has long been a holiday destination for the Japanese, while its subtropical climate, coral-fringed waters and relaxed way of life attract throngs of international tourists looking for an alternative to the hustle-bustle of major cities in mainland Japan.

8D7N Kyushu Japan Itinerary (Kumamato - Nagasaki - Fukuoka)

When Airasia announced their new route to Fukuoka and thus to the rest of mainland Kyushu, I was probably one of the first in line (online) to book my tickets as soon as they launched last year. And so began half a year of planning for my first visit to Fukuoka.

AirAsia yesterday unveiled the world’s first Freedom Flyer Programme aimed at making it easier, faster and better for loyal guests to earn AirAsia BIG Points. The overhauled loyalty programme, powered by AirAsia BIG Loyalty, is based on a unique membership status system determined by how often guests fly - the more guests fly with AirAsia, the faster they will earn BIG Points, regardless of how much they spend on fares.

Kiwi fruit, Lord of the Rings, Kiwi bird, Mouri, Kiwi as in the people and now...AirAsia X.

The obvious answer to where I am heading with this is of course, New Zealand.

AirAsia X today launched its new daily route to Auckland, New Zealand via Gold Coast, Australia. Held in the vibrant and naturally-lighted up Glasshouse at Seputeh, the new route was launched by New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia John Subritzky, AirAsia X Group chief executive officer (CEO) Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes, and AirAsia X Bhd CEO Benyamin Ismail.

First Cabin Capsule Hotel, Haneda Airport

Due to an unfortunate route cancellation by AirAsia X to Narita Airport, my plans for Tokyo were in jeopardy. I was to lose a day in the city because my flight was pushed to the afternoon flight to Haneda airport. Furthermore, I was climbing Mount Fuji the day after, making getting sufficient rest crucial.

With my flight landing close to midnight, I considered just roughing it out and sleeping at the airport as it made no sense to waste a night’s stay on accommodation in the city. But a quick Google search showed me that I had other alternatives. In the form of First Cabin Capsule Hotel at Haneda Domestic Airport Terminal No 1. So I booked a room or rather a bed through their website and got confirmation instantly.

First Cabin was anything but the typical capsule hotel. The lobby gave off the impression of a classy luxury hotel with low lighting. The reception was 24 hours so when I got there after 12pm, check-in was done fast and I was ready to jump into the bed by 1am.
