Signing Up for Hurricane Heat KL

Why do I keep doing this to myself?, I asked myself over and over again. Kyoto Marathon (no regrets), Mount Fuji (no regrets), Spartan Stadium Combo - Tough Mudder - Melbourne 10km run (no regrets) and the list goes on. I think I need an intervention.

You see, I have just signed up for Hurricane Heat organised by Spartan Race, this time in Klang. Granted, it's a 2 hours Hurricane Heat but it's the first I am joining. I spent the whole of 2015 chasing my Spartan Trifecta and now that I have it, where does that lead me? Hurricane Heat seemed like the next natural course of action.

What is Hurricane Heat and how does it differ from a Spartan Race?

First of all, HH isn't a race. It's a team building event -something like bootcamp times two or three. I heard it'll be burpee and mud galore and yet it only took a casual conversation with my sister to convince us to give it a shot. I suppose we were high from our bootcamp workout. Did I mention that we were signed up for the Spartan Super race on the same day as well?

HH has no timing chip or bib or headbands. Just you, some weird ass mandatory gear list and....random strangers who are just as mental as you aka your teammates. As soon as I was signed up, I received an email from Spartan KL.

Mandatory Gear List:
-All athletes MUST wear a black shirt. Can be a t-shirt, sports bra, tank top, whatever you want, but it must be black.
-1 Headlamp (per person). It will be dark.
-1 Black Sharpie Marker per athlete.
-2 Chemlights
-1 Camelback, backpack, ruck, purse, whatever you want to call it. You must be able to carry your own water supply.
-4 Salt/electrolyte packets. If you start to cramp up, eat the packets and drink some water.
-2-4 energy gel shots or energy bars, whichever flavor you prefer.

*Each team that does not have a required item will start their day with many, many burpees.
It's going to be wet and muddy, and it may be chilly. Please come prepared. Bring a change of clothes for when we're done.

Here’s what to expect:
-Burpees. Running. Jumping. Falling. Mud. Water. Ropes. Barbed wire. Burpees. Teamwork.
-Be prepared to spend 3+ hours on the course. The Hurricane Heat is intended to be more difficult than the race itself.
-You will be assigned to a team. You will rely on that team, and they will rely on you to get every single member of your team to the finish line.
-You will not leave anyone behind, even for a minute. You will finish as a team. If you leave members of your team behind at any time, your team will be penalized. If you continue to leave team members behind, the entire group will be penalized until everyone can learn to work as a unit.

Most importantly...
DO NOT BE THE PERSON THAT SHOWS UP LATE. YOU WON’T LIKE IT. JUST DON'T BE THAT PERSON!

I am reading heaps of burpees... sigh. Again...why do I do this to myself?? If you're going for Hurricane Heat as well, please drag my corpse to the finish line.
