It has been a while since I've done a food review but I am back now with a impromptu dinner visit to the new cafe in PJ New Town. I've driven past Shimmer Shine Café quite a few times and it was hard to miss the gigantic shining signage on the same row as Pizza Hut and Orange Business Hotel.
So on this cold rainy night, I decided it was time to give this café a try. There was ample parking in the evenings and free too! The theme at Shimmer Shine Café was a consistent elegant gold and white, setting a vibrant environment for dates and hangout friends. As the season of Christmas was approaching, the café felt especially festive.
I ordered the coffee chicken carbonara because I wanted to know what coffee chicken tasted like. Shimmer Shine Cafe roasts its chicken with Ethiopian coffee which blends quite nicely - the robust flavour of the coffee marinated into the juicy chicken bits.
I would love a chicken chop version of this. While the chicken was good, the carbonara was lacking in creaminess and could have used a hint of garlic. It was just a personal preference of mine.
The drink menu was extensive and had me intrigued. I would have to be come back another day to try some of the interesting drinks like the winter latte and Einspanner. But for today, we ordered the hot Hojicha and the hot Chocolate Brulee (aka topped with marshmellow) to combat the chilly evening. 
Since this cafe is just a short drive away from me (and opens at 8am!), I foresee myself visiting this place often on weekends, making my way through its pasta and coffee menu. For now, Shimmer Shine cafe is void of the cafe-hopping crowd but only time will tell if this will change.
