7D6N through Kyushu for First Time Visitors

Are you ready to embark on an adventure in Kyushu? This third largest island of Japan has so much to offer for those seeking a fun and exciting holiday. From hiking through active volcanoes to indulging in local cuisine, Kyushu has it all. So pack your bags, put on your hiking boots, and let's explore the wonders of Kyushu together!

Day 1: Fukuoka

We start our journey in Fukuoka, the largest city in Kyushu. As soon as you step out of the airport, you'll be greeted by the warm and friendly locals. Fukuoka is famous for its street food, so our first stop is the famous yatai (food stalls) in the city center. Try some of the local specialties like mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and Hakata ramen, a delicious noodle soup with pork broth.

After filling up on delicious food, take a stroll around the city's historic areas. Visit the ancient Fukuoka Castle and the Ohori Park, a large pond surrounded by cherry blossom trees. Don't forget to stop by the Fukuoka Tower, which offers breathtaking views of the city.

Day 2: Nagasaki

Today, we take a day trip to Nagasaki, a historic port city known for its unique blend of Japanese and Western cultures. Take a tram to the Nagasaki Peace Park, which commemorates the victims of the atomic bomb that was dropped on the city during World War II. Visit the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum to learn about the city's tragic history.

Afterward, take a stroll around the charming streets of Nagasaki's historic district, which has preserved the city's unique architecture and culture. Don't miss out on the famous Nagasaki Castella, a sponge cake made with a secret recipe that has been passed down for over 400 years.

Day 3: Kumamoto
On our third day, we head to Kumamoto, a city known for its beautiful castle and the famous Kumamon, the black bear mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture. Take a tour of the Kumamoto Castle, which was heavily damaged by an earthquake in 2016 but is still an impressive sight to behold. Afterward, visit the Suizenji Jojuen Garden, a traditional Japanese garden that dates back to the Edo period.

If you're feeling adventurous, head to Mount Aso, an active volcano that offers stunning views and hiking trails. You can even take a cable car to the top of the mountain and see the smoking crater up close.

Day 4: Beppu
Today, we head to Beppu, a coastal city known for its hot springs and thermal activity. Take a dip in one of the many onsen (hot springs) in the city, which are said to have healing properties. Beppu also has some unique hot springs like the sand baths, where you bury yourself in hot sand for a relaxing experience.

Afterward, take a stroll around the city's famous "Hells," which are a group of hot springs that are too hot for bathing but offer a unique spectacle. Don't forget to try the local specialty, the Beppu Jigoku Mushi Pudding, a steamed egg pudding cooked in the hot spring steam.

Day 5: Miyazaki
Our next stop is Miyazaki, a city known for its beautiful coastline and pristine beaches. Take a stroll around the Heiwadai Park, which offers stunning views of the ocean and the city. If you're a fan of Japanese mythology, visit the Udo Shrine, which is said to be the birthplace of the Shinto goddess
Amaterasu.

Don't forget to try the local specialty, the Miyazaki Mango, which is considered one of the best mangoes in Japan. You can also indulge in the local cuisine, which includes delicious seafood dishes like Miyazaki chicken and fresh sashimi.

Day 6: Kagoshima
Today, we head to Kagoshima, a city located at the southern tip of Kyushu. Visit the Sengan-en Garden, a beautiful Japanese garden that offers stunning views of Sakurajima, an active volcano located across the bay. Take a ferry to Sakurajima and hike up to the Yunohira lookout, which offers breathtaking views of the volcano and the city.

In the evening, visit the Tenmonkan district, which is known for its nightlife and delicious food. Don't forget to try the local specialty, the Kagoshima Kurobuta (black pork), which is known for its tender and juicy meat.

Day 7: Yakushima Island
On our last day in Kyushu, we take a day trip to Yakushima Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient cedar forests and beautiful waterfalls. Take a hike through the Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine, which inspired the setting for the animated movie "Princess Mononoke."

Visit the Yakusugi Museum to learn about the island's cedar trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old. If you're feeling adventurous, take a dip in the Shiratani Onsen, a natural hot spring located deep in the forest.
