ASICS Malaysia Champions Grassroots Sports Through ASICS MASISWA Badminton Championship 2025

ASICS Malaysia continues to demonstrate its commitment to grassroots sports development by sponsoring the ASICS MASISWA Badminton Championship 2025, which took place from 26 to 28 June at Taylor’s University Grand Hall. The prestigious three-day tournament brought together over 350 talented students from 15 private higher education institutions (IPTS) across Malaysia, competing in singles and doubles events under both the MASISWA Open and Bakat Baru (Beginner) divisions.

Following the championship, the second edition of the ASICS Badminton University Cup 2025 was held from 28 to 30 June, featuring more than 25 university teams battling for top honours. One of the tournament highlights was HELP University dethroning last year’s champion, UCSI University, in a thrilling final led by team captain Poopathi Velayutham.

ASICS’s ongoing support for badminton in Malaysia reflects the brand’s mission to empower individuals through sport, helping them achieve balance, focus, and resilience both on and off the court. Recognised by Majlis Sukan IPTS Malaysia (MASISWA), these tournaments serve as a crucial platform for student-athletes to showcase their skills, foster sportsmanship, and build confidence in competitive settings.

“We are proud to support young Malaysians on their athletic journeys,” said Boon Tib Soon Nik, Country Manager of ASICS Malaysia. “These young athletes represent the future of Malaysian sports. By investing in platforms like this, we’re not just fuelling their athletic growth but also encouraging healthier minds, stronger bodies, and more resilient communities.”

Among the standout performances was a remarkable victory in the Women’s Singles category by Loh Zhi Wei from the University of Wollongong Malaysia (UOWM). Ranked World No. 133, Loh not only secured the championship title but also delivered UOWM’s first-ever triumph at the ASICS MASISWA tournament.
