ASICS Novablast 6: Why I Can't Wait to Run in It

When I first laced up the ASICS Novablast™ 5, I immediately understood why it had built such a loyal following among runners. It was light, incredibly comfortable, and delivered that signature bouncy ride that made even easy runs feel fun. Whether I was heading out for a relaxed recovery run or building mileage during the week, it quickly became one of the shoes I reached for most often.

So, when ASICS announced the launch of the Novablast™ 6, I'll admit I was excited.

Rather than reinventing what already works, ASICS has focused on refining the experience that made the Novablast series so popular. Based on what's new, this looks like the biggest upgrade the franchise has received in years.

Why the Novablast™ Series Has Become a Favourite

One of the biggest strengths of the Novablast series has always been its versatility.

It's comfortable enough for everyday training, responsive enough for faster-paced sessions, and forgiving enough for runners who simply want an enjoyable ride. Unlike shoes that feel overly soft or overly firm, the Novablast strikes a balance that appeals to a wide range of runners.

That was certainly my experience with the Novablast™ 5.

The cushioning felt energetic without becoming unstable, and the lightweight construction meant my legs still felt fresh after longer runs. It became one of those shoes that made you look forward to heading out for another run.

From everything ASICS has shared, the Novablast™ 6 aims to build on those strengths while delivering even more energy return and comfort.

What's New on the ASICS Novablast™ 6?

The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the introduction of FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam into the shoe's signature forefoot trampoline pod.

Previously reserved for higher-performance models like the MEGABLAST™ and SONICBLAST™ series, this advanced foam technology now makes its debut in the Novablast franchise. The result is a more responsive, spring-like sensation that promises greater energy return with every stride.

For runners who already enjoy the lively feel of the Novablast™ 5, this is probably the update worth getting excited about.

Supporting this is FF BLAST™ MAX cushioning throughout the midsole, designed to provide a softer landing without sacrificing responsiveness. On paper, it sounds like a combination that should make daily miles feel even smoother while still encouraging you to pick up the pace when needed.

Small Changes That Could Make a Big Difference

While the new foam receives most of the attention, ASICS has also made several thoughtful improvements across the shoe.

The engineered mesh upper has been redesigned to improve breathability while creating a more adaptive fit. Anyone who trains regularly knows that comfort over longer distances matters just as much as cushioning, especially in Malaysia's warm and humid weather.

Another welcome addition is ASICSGRIP™ rubber in the forefoot.

This enhanced outsole is designed to improve traction while creating a more efficient toe-off. Combined with the updated midsole geometry, it should help maximise the trademark trampoline effect that has become synonymous with the Novablast series.

These aren't flashy changes, but they're exactly the kind of refinements that often make a good running shoe even better.

A Daily Trainer That Continues to Evolve

According to Paul Lang, Senior Manager of Global Product, Performance Running Footwear at ASICS, the goal wasn't simply to update the shoe but to elevate the signature ride that runners have come to expect.

That philosophy makes sense.

The Novablast franchise has become one of ASICS' fastest-growing and most popular running shoes globally. Rather than changing its identity, the design team focused on enhancing the bounce, improving responsiveness, and refining the overall geometry to create an even more enjoyable running experience.

Professional middle-distance runner Drew Hunter echoed that sentiment, describing the Novablast™ 6 as his preferred daily trainer because of its comfort, consistency, and noticeably improved responsiveness when increasing the pace.

Why I'm Looking Forward to Running in the Novablast™ 6

Having spent plenty of kilometres in the Novablast™ 5, I'm naturally curious to experience how much of a difference the new FF TURBO™ SQUARED trampoline pod makes.

The fifth generation already felt lively enough to make daily runs enjoyable, so the idea of even more bounce without compromising comfort sounds incredibly promising.

I'm also interested to see how the updated upper performs during longer runs. Better breathability is always welcome, particularly for runners training in Malaysia's tropical climate.

Most importantly, I'm hoping the Novablast™ 6 retains the quality that made me enjoy its predecessor so much. It's not just about speed or performance metrics. It's about having a shoe that makes you want to head out for another run the next day.

If ASICS has managed to preserve that feeling while making the ride even more energetic, the Novablast™ 6 could easily become one of the standout daily trainers of 2026.

ASICS Novablast™ 6 Malaysia Release Date

For runners eager to experience the latest evolution of the franchise, the ASICS Novablast™ 6 will officially be available in Malaysia from 3 July 2026.

If you've been running in the Novablast™ 5 like I have, or if you're searching for a lightweight, highly cushioned daily trainer that balances comfort with responsiveness, this is one release that's well worth keeping on your radar.

I know I'll be looking forward to taking my first run in it.
