Following my speculation write up last week, there is a lot of updates to unload from today's press conference so strap in, runners!
The Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) is making its much-anticipated return for its 17th edition on 4 and 5 October 2025, promising runners an upgraded race experience in the heart of Malaysia’s capital city. Organised by Dirigo Events, the country’s premier distance running event is set to reach new heights with fresh developments, exciting partnerships, and a new race route.
Standard Chartered Extends Title Sponsorship Until 2028
At the press conference held at Stadium Merdeka, Dirigo Events announced that Standard Chartered Malaysia has renewed its title sponsorship for another four years, extending the bank’s commitment to Malaysia’s largest running event through 2028.
Mak Joon Nien, CEO of Standard Chartered Malaysia, shared,
“As we celebrate 150 years in Malaysia, our continued partnership with KLSCM reflects our long-term commitment to the nation. This marathon is more than a race—it’s a platform for unity, inclusivity, and sustainability.”
This year’s KLSCM route will feature a major change. Due to ongoing upgrades at Dataran Merdeka, the iconic start and finish points will be relocated. The 2025 race will begin in Kuala Lumpur city centre (exact location tbc) and end at the historic Stadium Merdeka, providing a fresh and memorable experience for all participants.
