[TL:DR] KLSCM 2025 Key Highlights

For those in need of cliff notes of KLSCM's announcements today, here you go. 


1. KLSCM inks partnership renewal with Standard Chartered
- Standard Chartered Malaysia has renewed its title sponsorship of the country’s premier distance running event for four more years. The partnership will extend into 2028.

2. KLSCM reveals new Gold Sponsors
- Global sports brand ASICS and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL) have signed on as Gold sponsors with naming rights.
- The 21km category is now called the ASICS Half Marathon. ASICS is also the official footwear and apparel partner.
- The 10km race is now called the Pantai KL 10km.

3. Returning partners and supporters
- 100 Plus, Counterpain, High 5 Nutrition, Seiko and TudungPeople
- KLSCM 2025 is supported by venue host Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Malaysia Athletics, the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police.

4. Event capacity
- Accepting a maximum of 42,000 runners
o Full Marathon: 12,700
o Half Marathon: 13,300
o 10km: 11,000
o 5km: 4,500
o Kids Dash: 500
 
- Expecting 2,500 overseas runners and 10,500 domestic tourists.

5. New start and finish points
- The regular venue, Dataran Merdeka, will be undergoing significant upgrading and maintenance work.
- There are new start and finish points this year.
- The race will still start in the Kuala Lumpur city centre.
- The race will now finish at Stadium Merdeka.

6. Registration dates
- Priority registration opens on 17 April and ends on 21 April. (Priority registration is open to runners who have competed in at least eight previous editions, as well as faster runners who met the required finishing times in 2023 or 2024)
- Registration for the Run For A Reason (RFAR), Corporate Challenge and Run Club Challenge opens on 17 April and ends on 31 July.
- Public registration opens on 22 April and closes on 31 July or when sold out, whichever is earlier. Includes Priority Registrations who didn’t sign up in time and Overseas Runners.
- High Performance Runner registration – only these runners are eligible for prize money

7. Run For A Reason charities
- The RFAR surpassed the RM1 million mark last year with RM1.085 million raised.
- The RFAR is a community effort.
- The beneficiary charities for 2025 are Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, Hospis Malaysia, Kechara Soup Kitchen and Teach for Malaysia.

8. New categories

- Run Club Challenge – specifically for running clubs in Malaysia. Participation in this inaugural race is by invite only where clubs must meet certain criteria.
o They may send one team of four runners to compete in the Full Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon and Pantai KL 10km. Maximum of one team per distance.
o Each team must comprise four (4) runners, where at least two (2) must be female runners.
o Participants must be Malaysian citizens.
o Winning Team to receive a medal/team member & a trophy for the club
o The competing running clubs are: Denai Division, Kelana Jaya Run Club, KucingGemokRunners, Kyserun Krew, Pacemakers Malaysia, Projek 59, Rise and Shine Crew, Social Athletics and Wind Runners

- State Youth Challenge – for young runners aged 15 to 24 years old where each runner must meet certain criteria.
o Each participant will be able to represent a Malaysian state of their choice.
o They may compete in either the Full Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon or Pantai KL 10km.
o Total Categories: Full Marathon Men & Women, ASICS Half Marathon Men & Women, Pantai KL 10km Men & Women
o Participants must be Malaysian citizens but are allowed to compete even if they reside overseas.
o The prize money will go to the state athletic associations for their Youth programmes.
o Total Prize Money in the State Youth Challenge: RM24,000
o For each category: Winning state gets RM2,000, 2nd place RM1,300, 3rd place RM700

9. Returning categories
- Run For A Reason
o The RFAR charity initiative has played an important role in working with the running community in a collective effort to raise funds for deserving charities.
o To date, the running community has contributed close to RM9 million in funds through this platform to help the charity partners make a positive difference in Malaysian society.

- Corporate Challenge
o The Corporate Challenge is a competitive yet fun platform for companies to register and compete as a corporate team, while running for charity.
o This 10km race is open to Malaysian companies only. A minimum number of 3 runners is required for each team, and there is no maximum number of runners.
o The lowest total “Net Time” of the top 3 finishers from each company will determine the winning corporation. The winners will each receive a medal.

- Golden Bib
o Introduced in 2023 – 10 times FM Finisher are eligible
o 39 Golden Bib runners 2023
o 90 Golden Bib runners 2024
o 162 potential Golden Bibs in 2025

- High Performance
o Only these runners are eligible for Prize Money
o Helps us to get to know the talent in our country and gives us a database of the stronger runners
o The goal is to encourage and raise the standard of endurance running in this country

10. Returning activities
- Medic on the Run programme
o Introduced in 2024 with a team of 40 medical professionals from all over Malaysia coming together to run alongside the KLSCM runners, equipped with AED machines and First Aid Packs to provide aid on the go.
o For 2025, there will be 80 Medic on the Run personnel who will run in the Full and Half Marathon categories

- Running clinics
o Conducted by KLSCM coaches – YK Lim and Karsten Korbel
o Six clinics and one masterclass planned

- Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC) and Active Lifestyle Expo
o Will be held 2 to 4 October 2025 at Hall 6, KLCC Convention Centre

11. Revised baggage service
- There will be a baggage service to move a Participant's baggage from the Start Point Race Venue to the Finish Point Race Venue.
- Participants who opt for the Baggage Service may purchase this service during race registration for RM10.80
- The baggage service and its fee includes an official KLSCM 2025 Gear Bag – purchase is limited to one (1) per person. Only KLSCM 2025 Gear Bags will be accepted at the bag deposit counters.

12. Merchandise and promotions

- Merchandise store opens on 17 April and closes 11 September.
- More exciting campaigns to come from individual sponsors.

• Full: 3:30 AM
• Half: 4:45 AM
• 10KM: 6:00 AM
• 5KM: 7:45 AM
• Kids Dash: 10:00 AM / 10:20 AM
