Gold Coast 2014: Day 2 - Hurricane's Grill & Bar, Surfers Paradise

So after running/walking 21km and overcoming 35 obstacles (or burpeeing our way through), it only seemed right that we treat ourselves to a scrumptious meal at one of the famous eateries in Gold Coast, Hurricane's Grill and Bar in Surfers Paradise.

A good many blogs and TripAdvisor reviews recommended this place so we were excite to dine there especially after an exhausting day. Reservations were made a week in advance and a deposit was paid to secure our booking as we had a huge group of over 20 people.

Admittedly some of us were a little under-dressed for the place but one glance at a friend who had sprained her ankle at Spartan and the staff understood. We survived Spartan and we were starving and cold. While there, I could not resist popping into Starbucks for a Chai Latte. It was just a thing I do in every country I've traveled to: try out the local Starbucks.

Anyway, we were shown to our table by our cheery waitress who took our orders in a rather systematic manner, moving down the long table for our order of dish and drinks. I opted for the Surf and Turf ($59) which was a medium rare 500g prime rib and two Queensland King Prawns.  It was...alright. I felt that the price didn't justify the dish. The prawns were fresh, sweet and succulent with flavour but the prime rib disappointed for it wasn't juicy enough for me and the meat was tough and painfully chewy. The dish came with three sauces; mustard, chilli and garlic sauce. Only the garlic sauce helped.

A little.

The whole time I was fighting my way through the prime rib, I kept eyeing my friend's full rack of pork rib, drenched and marinated in glistering sauce. Sensing my intense woeful stare, my friend shared a rib with me and a bite of it, confirmed that I had chosen wrongly. Sauces mixing wonderfully into the tasty, melt-in-your-mouth meat, the rib just parted from the bone so easily.

Look at it! It's just sinfully meatiness waiting to be chomped on.

Another dish I would recommend there is their sauteed button mushrooms in garlic sauce. It was the bomb diggity!

Hurricane's Grill and Bar served up a few hits and misses but its location by the beach and in the main city center makes for a fuss-free option for a special day out.

To find Hurricane's Grill and Bar, just find KFC and MOS Burger. There is a escalator in the area, beside a shoe shop that lead up to the entrance of the restaurant.
